Levothyroxine vs armour

The other day I saw my doctor and we went over lab work. My thyroid was waaaaaaay off again.

I was taking 180 mgs of armour thyroid, but it wasn't helping me out at all. I've put on close to 15 lbs in a month and I'm completely dead on energy. So she switched me to 75 mgs of levothyroxine.

Right now I am only on my second day of it, but I like it a little more. First of all, it doesn't smell like piss or taste extremely foul. Second of all, I only have to take one pill versus three of the other ones.

If you're on levothyroxine, do you like it?

I've been on levothyroxine (Synthroid brand) since January 2000, and like it just fine. It regulates my thyroid nicely.

yes i am on synthroid, the name brand. the name brand works, the off-brands don't. i'm on 130something (they just upped it) and its working great. if it doesnt work for you, ask the doctor to write "name brand only" and see if that makes a difference before you try something else.

I am on levothyroxine (Levothroid) and it's not helping me at all. I am on a much much smaller dose than are you, though.

Levothyroxine = no better or worse than anything else for me.

I second that

I've gone from Levothyroid to generic Synthroid to Levoxyl, and never noticed differences in effectiveness between them.

i've been taking levothyroxine for years, and it works well for me. i do take a t3 preparation in addition to it, however. taking only one or the other does not work for me *at all*; for me, it's just been about constantly tweaking the ratio of t4 to t3.

i tried armour only briefly, but didn't find it to do any better for me than taking t4+t3.

hope you feel much better soon!

My doctor (UK) has never wanted to prescribe Armour. He would only prescribe levothyroxine, and whilst it worked well at first (this was six years ago) it then started to not work so well, we kept having to up the dose, and that left me just as tired but with anxiety attacks as well.

A month ago my endo added in 20mg of t3 a day - its done wonders. I feel like a different person and I've lost 8 pounds. I'm really looking forward to going back to him and going 'ha ha i told you so!'.

So, from me, levo on its on doesn't work much at all.

I am taking Synthroid and have had very good results so far. I tried Armour and had a bad reaction to it. (It does smell like piss!!! EW!)

I'm very happy with it.

i've only ever been on levothyroxine (levoxyl, to be exact) and i've had no desire to even try a t-3 combination or armour. i've been completely fine on it, provided my tsh stays under 3.

i should also say though, that on just the generic, i bounced around too much and couldn't keep the levels steady and even when in normal range, my symptoms were awful.

After my surgery, I tried Armour for 2 years and could never get steady. I go in Wednesday to get my blood work done after switching to Synthroid+Cytomel 7 weeks ago. I feel better and the doctor thinks it will keep me from having to switch my dose all the time.
